On the one hand, individual variation makes it impossible for our modern education to meet everyone's needs. On the other hand, schools cost students free time, so that even if they want to develop their hobbies, they may not have much free time to do so. The failure of free personal development corresponds to Gatto's claim that schools have ignored the importance of self-knowledge. Gatto suggests a solution to the situation in which schools limit students' personal development. He points out that there are some factors that contribute to the reform of our education system, such as community service and independent study. And the most important step is "to include the family as the main driver of education" (8). He believes that only by letting families have a role in school studies will it be possible to effectively solve the system's problem
