When the word worship comes up, what comes to mind? In the Oxford Dictionary adoration is explained by saying: “deep love and respect; worship." When you try to wrap your life around the word worship, when expressed in the right way, it is beneficial not only to yourself, but to those around you. Your personal definition of worship is having respect and love for someone or something , even though there are difficult times. Around the world, worship means different things to different people. I interviewed two middle school students, a high school student, my mother, and my grandmother and received their input on the word worship , including their personal definition, an example of how worship affects their lives, and a simile or metaphor for worship My two middle school students are Tate Thompson and Avery Marler, both age 15 La Tate's personal definition was that "Adoration means that you adore someone or something." Tate's example is that he adores his family and his simile is, "Adoring someone is the same as being happy." 'worship is the act of worshiping someone or something." His example is that he loves time with his family and friends. Avery's metaphor says, "When you truly love something, nothing stands in your way." Both Tate's and Avery's definitions align with the denotative definition of worship. Next, I interviewed an eighteen-year-old high school student, Dustin Courtney. Dustin's personal definition of worship stated that "Worship is loving people for who they are, no matter what." I think Dustin's definition also closely matches the dictionary definition because adoring someone involves moments of struggle, but in the end you find yourself s... middle of paper... what will your "afterlife" reside in golden streets of Heaven and that we will be able to spend the rest of eternity in the midst of our God. This is my number one favorite verse and I know that when I go to heaven, I will worship my God forever. After reading all these verses, it seems to me that they do not stray from the original meaning of worship either. The original definition states “worship” of something and the verses quoted align exactly with this. As Christians, all we try to do is live and breathe for our God and worship Him, worship Him. Worship can be depicted in many other things, rather than just books. These other types of literary examples include some songs and a movie. First I will show two examples of songs that show worship. Take Journey's “Faithfully” for example. These are some of the lyrics of the song:
