Canada is one of the developed countries in the world to adapt to progress and embrace change, but this does not limit the great nation to a perfect country. The problems are still evident and need to be resolved. Over the previous decades, women in Canada and around the world began to express their opinions. They called for a complete change in how the system negatively targeted and exploited women. This was caused by the fact that women living in Canada were forced to endure terrible conditions before the 1960s. Some of these issues were patriarchy, rape, abortion, child welfare, discrimination against women in the workplace, and violence against women. These were all issues that harmed women in Canadian society, but the most frightening of all was violence against women. According to Angelari, Marguerite (1997), “this is a technical term used to collectively refer to violent acts that are committed primarily or exclusively against women. Similar to a hate crime, which it is sometimes considered to be, this type of violence targets a specific group with the victim's gender as the primary motive.” This means that these acts of violence are specifically directed at women in our society. Examples of types of violence against women are: financial, emotional, physical, social and sexual violence. According to Prugl, E (2013), “forms of violence perpetrated by individuals are rape, domestic violence, sexual harassment, coercive use of contraceptives, female infanticide, prenatal sex selection, obstetric violence, harmful customary or traditional practices such as honor killings, dowry violence, female genital mutilation, marriage by kidnapping and forced marriage.”During the second wave (1960s and 1970s), ...... half of document ......rancis- Prugl, E.
