Topic > Discuss how problems associated with food security...

"Nearly a billion people go hungry, while we waste a third of the food we produce." (FAO.2013). Food security refers to long-term availability and its availability, stability, access and use. Issues surrounding food security, such as climate change and food sovereignty, are arguably wicked problems. A wicked problem refers to a problem that is complex, persistent or recurring, and difficult to solve due to its connections with larger social, economic, and political issues (Ahmed S. Khana. 2010) characterized by the lack of a definitive solution, uniqueness, and attachment complex to other wicked problems. First, we will explore both aspects of food sovereignty and the impact of business on food security. Secondly, we will describe the impact of climate change on food security and the different responses of businesses. The influence of food sovereignty on food security can be positive for consumers and businesses. Food sovereignty refers to the domination and/or monopolization of the food industry by transnational cooperatives (TNCs). Agriculture, such as soybean cultivation in Brazil, has provided the country with significant capital and employment. Companies like Archer-Daniels-Midland Co, Brazil's largest soybean exporter, have created both increased income and employment (Brazilian soybean production will increase by 4 million tons to 88 million tons in 2013- 2014. (United States Department of Agriculture)). Thanks to its large economies of scale. (Shruti Date Singh 2013& Altieri, Miguel A 2009) However, the influence of food sovereignty also creates a series of problems, large-scale operations of multinationals and unsustainable practices are damaging the dynamic balance of ecosystems and increasing the risk of natural disasters. ..... half of the document ......rrow.com/2013/09/26/brazilian-soy-production-still-unsustainable-according-to-campaigners/>)(Schmidhuber, Josef and Francesco N Tubiello "Global Food Security Under Climate Change."
