Introducing a New Grammar: Indirect QuestionsThe purpose of my seminar article is to show how to present indirect questions to middle school students. Indirect questions would be introduced and presented to the 9th form students. These students should have an approximately pre-intermediate level of English and should be familiar with direct questions, their form and use. Students will be able to recognize the differences between both types of questions and will be able to understand a different use of both grammatical concepts in a particular context. The presentation and exercise is divided into two lessons. Class I1. The introduction of the lesson: After checking the attendance (2 minutes), the teacher will start by asking questions, for example: Teacher: How are you today? What did you do after school yesterday? What did you eat for lunch? The whole class responds (this type of activity serves to activate students and attract their attention). Next, people are asked: Teacher: Tom. What time is it? Student A: It's five past one. Teacher: Good. Now ask someone in the class another question. Student A: Eliška. Do you like swimming? Student B: Yes, I like it. In this activity, students practice asking questions and communicating with each other. This helps the teacher recognize whether students are able to formulate direct questions correctly and can check their response in whole sentences. This activity should last a maximum of 5 minutes.2. The presentation of the new grammarAfter the teacher is reassured that the students are familiar with the direct questions, the presentation of a new grammar can begin. The teacher explains the purpose of the lesson to the student. Teacher: Today we are... halfway through the paper... the student's task is to rewrite the indirect questions – the teacher can assign the exercise as homework. The purpose of the activity: Students develop their listening skills and reading. The teacher can also ask them if they know who Elvis Presley was (cultural competences developed). Then the teacher concludes the lesson. Works Cited Nepřímé otázky – kurz angličtiny.
