Topic > Religions in the World: Christianity and Hinduism

Among all the different beliefs present in the world today, Hinduism is one religion that seems different and interesting. Hinduism is one of the world's oldest living religions. The religion is more than 4,000 years old. Hinduism originated in India and the first known believers of this religion were known as the ancient people, the Aryans (Hinduism). Like most religions in the universe, Hinduism is unique in its own way. Hinduism is unique because it did not begin as a religion. Hinduism was actually a culture for people in India and then turned into a religion (Hinduism on Fun Facts). Believers of Hinduism think differently from others. Followers believe that there is a supreme absolute in the entire world. It would be known as Brahman. Although Hindus believe that Brahman is the only absolute, this does not promote the worship of this deity alone. They actually believe that there are thousands of gods and goddesses of Hinduism who represent aspects of Brahman. This means that the faith of Hinduism is characterized by multiple idols. The best known and most important deities of Hinduism however are the Trinity of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva, all being the creator, preserver and destroyer. Not only do Hindus consider these three important roles in their religion, but they also worship animals, trees and spirits (Das). The trio they really focus on are three gods who are responsible for the beginning of Hinduism, its stewardship of the world, and the destruction of the world. The names of the three gods are Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. All three have three different roles. Brahma's task was to create the world and all creatures on it. He was the first god of the Hindu religion. Vishnu is the preserver of the... center of the card... and that temple worship, rituals, sacraments and personal devotions create a communion with these devas and Gods. Hindus also believe that a spiritually awakened master is essential to knowing the Transcendent Absolute. The eighth belief is that all life is afraid. The final belief shared by Hindus is the belief that no particular religious teacher is the only path to salvation. ("9 Fundamental Hindu Beliefs") Hinduism is a very popular religion. There are believed to be nearly 900 million followers worldwide and the number continues to grow. Hinduism is one of the three largest religions in the universe, inferior to Christianity and Islam. Hinduism is most popular in India, where the religion was founded. Hinduism seems very interesting to most. Most people believe that the religion will continue to be practiced and gain followers around the world.
