The early 1920s provided many opportunities for people. After the Great War many people were saddened and always had their minds on war and violence. Most of the most popular sports today began in this time period. Baseball was the most popular of the many sports that were developed and played during the 1920s. Professional baseball's past provided a much-needed outlet for many Americans who wanted to forget the Great War, place their hopes in modern heroes, and spend their hard-earned money on fun entertainment. First, baseball began to become a hit in the 1920s due to spectacular performances by many legends of this period. Baseball players in the 1920s did not earn the same income as professional baseball players today. While the pay was much better than that of the average family in the 1920s, it still doesn't compare to the numbers major league baseball players get today. Many people have practiced their baseball skills on the streets and in open lots just to get better and have a chance at becoming a professional baseball player. These people wanted to play baseball to help their families. Another big problem during this time was racism and baseball. MLB (Major League Baseball) at the time only accepted whites to play baseball. African Americans and even women had their own professional leagues to rival MLB in popularity, and just for the fun of the game. Later in the years after the 1920s, African Americans and whites all played in the MLB without issue, which is still very strong today. Baseball continued to start a great movement during this time that helped many young people keep their heads out of the war and become multicultural to have all kinds of competitions... middle of paper... and baseball records came out 1920s who set goals for younger people. Many icons and role models were created as baseball's growth continued. Children called people like Babe Ruth an icon and role model as they reached their own standards in later years. Baseball has impacted others in new job opportunities, entertainment and more. Works Cited “ERA 2 BABE RUTH ERA 1921 TO 1935.” Baseball is bigger. Np, nd Web.
