The potential profession I intend to pursue is radiology. Radiology deals with taking x-rays of the body and diagnosing what is found wrong. The operation of the radiology unit involves taking a patient and asking the radiology technician to take images of the body using the machines. Different types of machines such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT), and positron emission tomography (PET), all identify images taken of the human body (Phillip Costello, 2014). After the images are taken, they are sent to the radiologist for interpretation. After being interpreted, the patient is told the diagnosis. Each of these steps involves writing in a certain form. Writing is a form of communication in the radiology unit, so it must be specific and clear for someone else to interpret. In the profession of radiologist it is first necessary to write the patient's record. This includes information about insurance, medical history, what the requested x-ray is for, and where it will be performed on the body. Writing this way is similar to writing a small research paper. You need to research the patients, their history, and what insurance they have. Writing the report is important because the information must be accurate in order to help the patient as much as possible. If the medical history information is incorrect, it can cause huge problems for the patient. For example, if the patient is claustrophobic, he or she should undergo an x-ray in an open room where the patient is not in a closed tube so that he or she does not have a panic attack and potentially hurt himself or others. It is very important to ensure that the report contains the correct area where the x-ray is to be taken. Having the wrong body part x-...... in the center of the paper ......that is readable is the biggest concern. Having legible writing makes the entire operation of the radiology unit run smoothly. If the writing is not legible, the entire process may stop. Stopping the process is not good. It causes the process to be slower and puts people's lives at risk. For example, x-rays can show blood flow. Having a very quick process could save someone's life if they were bleeding and needed a quick x-ray of where the bleeding was coming from and how it could be stopped.
