The APA writing style is most commonly used to cite psychology, education, and social science sources and is also the official writing style of the American Psychological Association. The APA General Organizational Guidelines are basic guidelines that explain how to write a research paper in APA format. These guidelines ensure a clear and coherent presentation of written material which differs from other writing styles because it concerns elements such as: quotations, punctuation, presentation of numbers, etc. There are four main sections in an APA paper. They consist of the title page, the abstract, the main body and the references. The title page of an APA document was recently changed in the publication of the sixth edition of the APA Publication Manual. On the title page a writer should include the title of the article, the writer's name, and the school he or she belongs to. It is suggested that your title should be no more than 12 words, and when writing your name, do not include titles or degree information such as Doctor or Doctorate. Additionally, the title page should include, at the top of the page, a left-aligned header and a right-aligned page number. The abstract, one of the four main sections of an APA document, is the section that summarizes the research conducted, the methods with which the thesis was tested, the results of the research, the purpose of the research, the data analysis and the conclusions. It should start on a new page and already include the page header. The "Abstract" must be centered on the first line of the abstract page, without bold, italic, underline, or quotation marks. The abstract should be double-spaced and a single paragraph of approximately 150-250 words.
