Introduction To understand the world around us, it is absolutely critical to be aware of the dangers we face every day, as well as the distinct forms these dangers can take. In other words, social engineering can be used by anyone and everyone, sooner or later, will be a victim of it. Information from the world around us is absorbed into our brain without our active involvement; perception is based on this effort to actively organize and interpret the stimuli that are introduced into the brain. Although these two concepts of social engineering and perception may seem unrelated, many wonder what the correlation is between these two concepts. Social Engineering Social engineering is the act of manipulating people into taking actions or providing sensitive information. In the dictionary the word social is defined as “relating to the life, well-being and relationships of human beings in a community”. Wikipedia defines the idea of engineering as “the application of scientific, economic, social and practical knowledge to design, build, maintain and improve structures, machines, devices, systems, materials and processes”. With that we combine the two words and find that social engineering is an art or talent, it is something that can be learned but will require practice. The idea and the foundation behind it are basic, but the skill needed to manipulate humans and control a particular part of them to achieve a desired result is very difficult to master. Perception In many ways, perception depends heavily on sensation; sensation must occur for perception to follow. Our perception takes what we perceive and actively engages with it, organizing... the center of the paper... the three lines are the same length and the "midpoint" is often perceived as if it were at the end of the tail of each line. It is an optical illusion that plays with our sense of perception and shows how perspective and distance can often be confused when one does not have the appropriate perceptual expectation. In conclusion, the similarity between social engineering and perception is extremely interconnected. Social engineering can take many forms, and when used correctly, you can have absolute control over someone's action without them even knowing you are manipulating them. Gestalt psychology illustrates the various mechanisms underlying how we complete patterns and perceive such data, forming personal realities that are greater than the sum of their parts. By understanding these fundamental ideas, we have a better idea of how we look at the world and how we interact with it.
