In today's business world, management can be found in every company. While the type of business a company conducts determines its managerial needs, function and role, essentially all managers perform some of the same core functions ensuring their business runs efficiently. One of the primary roles of a manager is to assist employees in directing common goals. Essentially all managers play a vital role in today's rapidly evolving business organizations. This essay will discuss the technical, human, and conceptual traits of a manager and how these traits correspond to the planning, organizing, leading, and controlling necessary for a manager to succeed in today's business world. Effective management skills are in high demand these days. In organizations such as business, commerce and industry, managers who possess well-developed leadership skills, excellent communication skills and who are also effective strategic thinkers are needed. For a manager to be competent at all levels, he or she should possess communication, leadership and time management skills. These skills are perhaps the heart and soul of all successful companies and play an important role in effectively managing teams. A manager should be able to train their team members and provide support with team member learning enhancement skills. In my experience as a retail manager, it has been essential for me to stay current with my leadership skills and communication skills. I have attended every leadership conference available to me and I believe it has made me a more effective manager.
