Over the years gay adoption has been a controversial topic as to whether it should be allowed or not. Gays and lesbians should have the same rights as heterosexuals to be treated equally, regardless of who or what they love. A family consisting of mother, father and children should have the same ability to adopt as a family with gay parents. If heterosexual families can adopt, then there should be no problems for gays and lesbians adopting children because parents who choose same-sex partners should be treated as a "typical" couple, and gays and lesbians should not be discriminated against and same-sex couples are able to provide any child with food and shelter just as a heterosexual family can. Parents who choose same-sex partners should be treated as a “typical” couple should be treated. Whether it's because of who they love, what they believe, or whether they dress a certain way, it should not determine how they should be treated. “Applicants should be evaluated on their ability to successfully parent a child who needs family membership and not on their race, appearance, diverse lifestyle, or sexual orientation” (Children's Voice Magazine 2). A “typical” couple is able to nurture, love, and house their adopted child. This also applies to same-sex couples. All people have feelings and no matter who those feelings are for, they will treat a child with the same respect as anyone else. Furthermore, same-sex families should be able to receive everything that a heterosexual family could have. “Children whose parents are gay or lesbian deserve the same protections that our society provides to other children.” (Cameron 5). This and all the rights of the citizen...... middle of paper...... even having a family and people to love. Adoption by gay parents should be considered just as everything else in the constitution where all men are created equal despite their race, creed, color or religious beliefs.
