Education in EuropeThis essay will compare and contrast the education system in the UK and Denmark. It will focus on primary and lower secondary education, focusing on the Folkeskole, its objectives, how each country approaches exams and grades, the content of the curriculum and how each country differs and also on each country's teaching and learning . There are three different ideologies behind the education system; these include classical humanism, encyclopedism, and pragmatism. The UK's education system is based on classical humanism and promotes the morality that when children leave school they know what good behavior is and have good knowledge on topics such as religious education and faith. In fact in the UK we are so concerned about this, (Paton, G. 2013) “Children in the Reception year – aged four – should start to learn about different faiths and visit places of worship such as churches, mosques and synagogues, is claimed.' There is more emphasis than ever on RE in schools because of the diversity of nationalities in the UK, and it is thought important that children learn about and respect different faiths and beliefs , That makes them different from everyone else, by offering some students extra curricular activities and giving students the chance to choose what they want to study at GCSE, and specialisation, which gives the child the chance to specialize in what they are good at, for example example playing music.instrument.Danish education takes a slightly more relaxed approach, using the ideology of pragmatism. Denmark also focuses on the curriculum, but also pays attention to what the student needs to survive socially and professionally using an instrumentalist approach.
