Beller is in the section of his story where he introduces the man escaping from the World Trade Center. In these paragraphs the crowd of spectators has not yet understood what is happening; This demonstrates the confusing tone applied by Beller. Everyone in the vicinity of the World Trade Center wants to know the story of Ashen Guy. Who is he? What is his job? What were you doing when the plane crashed? The Ashen Guy rarely speaks throughout the narrative and when he does the quote “I was almost out” gets the audience's attention (Beller 61). This leaves the crowd wondering how many others remained behind the Ashen Boy who couldn't get out. Many questions arise in the minds of the crowd, which adds to the already existing confusion
