Tragedy is part of everyone's life, no one is left out. It often leads to coming of age, where the tragedy has left a person changed, often matured, but not by choice. We have all experienced tragedies and had our moments of maturity. These moments are what help us as human beings to mature and develop our personalities, and eventually we learn to question life and begin to rebel at a young age, sometimes to challenge our parents, and other times to challenge us themselves. We rebel to find ourselves, to challenge the norms of society. In Persepolis, author Marjane Satrapi, who played the main character, had to experience a horrible tragedy at such a young age. The book begins when she was only 10 years old and throughout the story she explains the horrors she saw, some of which were so horrific for anyone to see, even as a 10 year old. Marjane observes the oppression by the Shah and learns about revolutions and socialism, she is still too young to understand at the time, she often reads to find out more. From a young age she was involved in politics and war at the same time...
