Introduction: Sports events are becoming popular around the world, so many countries compete to host a major sports event such as the Olympics and World Cup. This report is divided into three parts; the first part is about the selection procedure, the second part describes the advantages and finally the disadvantages. Selection Procedure: Two of the biggest sporting events globally are the Olympics and the World Cup, while both events are hosted every four years. However, the host of the event is decided through a bidding process where various cities or towns have been invited to bid for the right to host the event. Furthermore, in relation to the Olympic Games, the National Olympic Committee is responsible for deciding which cities can apply for the right to host the Olympics. Furthermore, there is no restriction on any city applying for the nomination. For the World Cup, each country's national governing body is responsible for deciding whether it wants to participate or not. In 2002, FIFA decided to host the cup every four years on a different continent, thus excluding the possibility of hosting the cup twice consecutively on the same continent. For example, if Qatar hosts the 2022 World Cup, none of the Asian countries will be able to bid to host the 2026 World Cup. However, after the decision to bid, each nominated country would have to sign an initial agreement including the profit share, the cities hosted in each country, the accommodation and transport infrastructure as well as the stadiums are already built or are planned to be built without forgetting the legislations. Advantages: Hosting a major sporting event can have many positive effects on the economy and society of the host country.
