Dark City Characters I wrote my review of the book Dark City by Frank Lauria. The main characters in the book were John Murdoch, Mr. Hand and Mr. Book. Ever since Murdoch woke up in the icy bathtub in an unfamiliar room, he began to suspect everything. He's wanted for a series of brutal murders he doesn't remember committing. He later discovers that he possesses a power called attunement, which allows you to stop time and alter people's perceptions. A kind of brain manipulation. He soon discovers that he is being chased by an alien race calling themselves the Outlanders. They want him because he's immune to brain manipulation, so he's a threat to their bizarre world order. John Murdoch is the protagonist of this book and tries to unravel the twisted puzzle of his past and his identity. Mr. Hand is an intelligent character who also has the tuning method. When he discovered that Murdoch could tune, Mr. Hand was injected with Murdoch's memories so that he could think like Murdoch and defeat him. Mr. Hand is a foreigner himself, taking orders from Mr. Book. Mr. Book is the antagonist in the book. He is the leader of the Underworld ruled by the Strangers. He is very wise and thinks about the procedures to conquer the city. Assign each of the strangers to a sector of the city. When he learned that a man named John Murdoch was immune to their tuning, he knew he had to come up with something fast. Mr. Book can also tune in. Same with other Foreigners. The supporting characters were Inspector Frank Bumstead, Dr. Daniel Poe Schreber, Emma Murdoch, Mr. Rain, Mr. Sleep, Mr. Quick, Mr. Wall and all the other Strangers who were not named. Frank Bumstead plays the role of an inspector. Dr. Schreber is Murdoch's source. It helps him to always stay one step ahead of the Foreigners. He also works for them but secretly provides information to Murdoch. Emma is John Murdoch's wife. She played a role in triggering Murdoch's suspiciousness when she told him she was his wife, and he didn't know it. The rest of the Strangers like Mr. Wall and the unnamed ones work with Mr.
