The New Criticism originated between the 1940s and 1960s. This theory focuses on reading the text paying particular attention to emotional tensions, language and images. The New Criticism does not draw attention to the biographical and sociological question. Instead New Criticism focuses on how each piece works together by analyzing the text more closely. As stated by Wikipedia, this theory was part of the formalist movement during the literacy theory handled by American literary criticism in the 20th century. The name New Criticism applied to many Anglo-American writers who focused critical attention on literature. According to Bedfordsmartins this movement was borrowed from John Crowe Ransom who wrote the theory of New Criticism in 1941. Also another English writer named IA Richards who later wrote books on practical criticism and The Meaning of Meaning.
