Topic > Essay on Media Violence - 950

“There is growing evidence that early exposure to media violence is a contributing factor to the development of aggression” (Huesmann, Moise-Titus, Podolski, & Eron, 2003) . Huesmann and Kirwil (2007, p. 545), argue that an individual's aggression and violent behavior are not only caused by emotional, mental and physical circumstances, but the environment also plays an equally vital role. They also state that the acceleration of violent behavior in the short term is due to the disclosure of violence, which can occur through the media, computer games and the violence they observe at home, at school and in their social environment. This article seeks to understand violence in the media and its effects on humanity by understanding the issues that underlie the discussion of whether exposure to violence through the media actually contributes to the likelihood of engaging in violent and/or aggressive behavior. In this essay, an evaluation will be made to determine the duration of the effects of violent media in children and adults. Secondly, an analysis will be carried out in terms of conditioning experienced growing up, first a brief explanation of the interpretation will be given and finally a conclusion will be drawn to determine whether exposure to media violence actually causes violent and/or aggressive behavior in individuals. Many say that violence is not learned from fake violence, but is learned from the real-life encounters we have with violence, starting with the flogging of children by their parents when they are younger, or by peers, for example. Conditioning is a “behavioral process whereby a response becomes more frequent or more predictable in a given environment as a result of reinforcement, with reinforcement typically located…middle of the paper…children have an instinctive tendency to imitate anyone they witness, but that still doesn't mean they can. Beyond that, do children who play these games really know the difference between fantasy and reality? Many don't and use these video games as a "dress rehearsal for reality" .the intention was simply for recreational purposes. How a person decides to interpret the information is entirely up to them, as mentioned before. So, if parents don't monitor their children's media consumption, they could end up like one of thousands of criminals sent to penitentiaries and death row for senseless and avoidable acts of violence. After all, they didn't say "get a gun and shoot".’.
