Whatever happened to originality? Remember when every movie was different from the last, when every book you read was a completely different experience, when every song didn't sound like an electronic mess? Nowadays, originality is a rarity to say the least, people tend not to be that original simply because it's a risk, especially in the media. The media are television, movies, music, video games and books. The reason originality is a risk is because of sales and popularity, things that people are familiar with tend to be more popular, like internet memes. Of course memes are generally unoriginal garbage, but since so many memes are similar to each other and contain embarrassing jokes that everyone has heard before, people love them! Memes are so popular BECAUSE people know them so well, because they are used to them. But when someone makes a truly original joke on the Internet, no one really cares, no one is familiar with this joke, they just want their unoriginal memes! Of course this is a vague example, a more well-known example of unoriginality is in video games, and yes, it's Call of Duty, but we'll talk about that in a later paragraph, as there's a lot to talk about. Enough with the author's partiality, let's be clear; It's obvious that people (generally big companies, like Sony or Activision) are afraid of being original, simply because they are afraid of the negativity it might cause, or even it might cause a financial disaster. “And if our product doesn't sell, it could cause financial problems!” or “What if people hate it?” These are the things that go through the minds of large companies and that prevent them from creating something truly original and unique. Instead, they are…half of paper…originality. While both films are still quite different, they share a lot of similarities. As stated earlier, people tend to stay away from originality because they are afraid of the consequences and because success is much easier to achieve when you simply improve something existing, instead of creating something completely new, and that's what it has Tarantino did, and he did. it worked. A lack of originality is seen literally everywhere, notable examples include; Call of Duty, Hunger Games, Pulp Fiction and "Do You Have Milk?" Originality is a risk, there can be consequences, the inability to be original and “If it ain't broke don't fix it”. People are simply afraid of being original, perhaps because they are selfish, or perhaps because they have no choice. The arguments in the previous paragraphs explain why there is a lack of originality, especially in the media, but also in advertising.
