Decisions are made in every industry and in everyday life, big or small. Therefore, it is crucial to make a decision after being well informed as it can have a significant impact on how your life will turn out to be. This decision-making process is heavily influenced by past experiences and emotional states, to name a few. In The Solitude of Prime Numbers by Paolo Giordano, the female protagonist Alice makes most of her decisions in life based on an accident that left her physically and emotionally unstable. Alternatively, in Charlotte Bronte's Jane Eyre, Jane also makes decisions based on her experiences, but takes a moral and ethical stance instead of letting her decisions be influenced by her emotions. Decisions are irrational when emotions prevail over the rational side of conscience and produce benefits when morality, principles and ethics prevail over emotions. Experiences and challenges have a great impact and influence an individual's personality, and the factors that contribute to making a decision are shared relationships with family, positive environment, and the ability to criticize the good and the bad. When an individual shares a bad relationship with family; it leads the person to be emotionally unstable due to which one can enter a path of self-destruction and foster feelings of unworthiness and devaluation. In both Jane Eyre and The Loneliness of Primes, Alice and Jane share a poor relationship with their family members and this causes a significant impact on their decisions. In The Loneliness of Prime Numbers, Alice shares a poor relationship with her father as she blames him for the accident that left her crippled.
