Trey TurleyGroup: “ Pitropolis” Topic #. 8 Geothermal Energy The race for an efficient and sustainable source of energy is an ongoing problem for the world. Global users are now waking up to the fact that these will not sustain us forever as they have left a large human footprint on the earth we so desperately depend on. This race has had a very positive effect on the global quest for greener, more sustainable energy and contributed to the development of new technologies. These technologies range from wind turbines, to solar panel power plants, and to harnessing and using heat from the layer of molten rock beneath the surface called geothermal energy. This article will focus on the natural renewable energy of geothermal, from the history to what is geothermal energy and also what the advantages and disadvantages are. First let's start with the history of geothermal energy, which goes back much further in time you would think. Geothermal energy can be traced back over 10,000 years ago when it was used by Paleo Indians with their homes near hot springs. Evidence shows that Indians used hot springs for activities that included heating their homes and bathing. They even saw hot springs as a healing source, which is nice if you've ever sat in one of those things, then you've experienced firsthand the primitive use of geothermal energy. In 1922, the first geothermal power plant in the United States made history for producing 250 kilowatts of power, capable of successfully lighting the streets and buildings in the area. This facility did not last very long due to its small energy production compared to other sites in the world... middle of paper... geothermal energy is almost infinite and will be able to last a long time live other alternatives . As technological development on geothermal plants progresses, they will increasingly become a supplier for the world's growing demand for energy, and yet they will continue to function as a clean, natural and renewable energy source, providing businesses, industries and homes with sustainable energy.
