Does anxiety affect the quality of sleep? Does sleep quality affect anxiety levels? The answer is yes; but there is no cause-effect relationship between the two but there is, however, a correlation relationship. In recent experimental studies it has been concluded that there is a high rate of comorbidity between sleep disorders and anxiety disorders. There is no concrete evidence to show that if an individual suffers from a sleep disorder, they will also develop an anxiety disorder and vice versa. “Sleep disorders, particularly insomnia, are highly prevalent in anxiety disorders, and disorders such as insomnia have been incorporated into some definitions of anxiety disorders, such as generalized anxiety disorder” (Staner, 2003 , p.1). There is no direct cause and effect relationship between the disorders, but nevertheless there is sufficient supporting evidence to show that there is a very high tendency to have both types of disorders at the same time. People who suffer from daily sleep disorders have difficulty carrying out normal daily activities due to lack of sleep. Their sleep quality is usually poor and thus prevents them from carrying out their daily activities because they are sleep deprived. Additionally, those who suffer from anxiety problems have trouble staying calm and relaxed. Anxiety also prevents people from fulfilling their daily duties properly because they experience unnerving feelings. Approximately 40 million (Sleeping Disorder Statistics, 2012) Americans suffer from chronic sleep disorders, regardless of their age. Some common disorders are insomnia, narcolepsy, and sleep apnea. People who suffer from insomnia have difficulty falling asleep and staying asleep, resulting in... middle of paper... not functioning properly because they are controlled by anxiety. Some anxiety disorders include phobias and generalized anxiety disorder. As a result, anxiety and sleep disorders can go hand in hand and cause comorbidities. Sleep affects your body and mind, but so does your anxiety level. Inadequate sleep can lead to the onset of anxiety disorders. On the other hand, anxiety can prevent a good night's rest, which can lead to sleep-related problems, difficulties and disorders. It is important that everyone in the world is aware of the techniques that can help prevent any kind of ailment. Hopefully, in the near future, everyone, everywhere, will be aware of the importance of sleep and relaxation, so that the chance of developing a disorder will decrease. Researchers will continue to inform new generations of their findings and improve them
