Topic > Education Reform: A Change for the Better - 2568

In these times of change one of the most important aspects of society that should be updated regularly is education. Changes in the curriculum and teaching methods must be reviewed annually. With this idea was born the idea of the Common Core State Standard which is currently adopted by forty-four out of fifty states in the United States. This new rework is designed to help better prepare students for college, university and the world of work. However, not everyone believes this is the right move education should be taking at this time. Those in support say this is the best possible decision to teach 21st century children. Others argue that the cause of the decline in the quality of education in the United States stems from other sociological factors and not from the way the system is currently run. Even more are worried about whether schools will be ready for this new wave of change. Will the Common Core be effective in helping prepare high school graduates for the future? Only time will tell whether the Common Core Standards will prove effective in further helping students prepare for the future. Common Core redefines learning goals in the areas of mathematics, language arts, and literacy. Common Core moves away from conventional teaching methods focusing on content to a system more focused on teaching skills. This new system also provides a great way for all students in the United States to be on the same educational footing. As Nancy Gardner, an English teacher at Mooresville High School, states in the article The Common Core is a Change for the Better, “Shared standards across geographic lines will help students develop increasingly complex skills regardless of which state, school district or c. ..... middle of paper ......
