Zappos.com Human Resource ManagementIntroductionHuman resource management has a strong impact on the entire managed organization. Human resource management ensures that human talent is used successfully and resourcefully to achieve organizational goals. As an organization's core competency, human resources has distinctive competencies that generate high value and distinguish an organization from competitors in areas such as productivity, quality and service, employee skills, and innovative change. Human resource management activities can be grouped into categories that include strategic human resource management; equal employment opportunities; personnel and talent management; compensation and benefits; and employee and industry relations. This article will discuss some of these HR functions and the role that HR has at the Zappos.com company. About the Company Zappos.com is a website that started out selling only shoes but now also sells items such as bags, clothing, and housewares to shoes. Their company logo includes their catchy name with an explanatory dot as a shoe print shaped end which leads consumers to believe that Zappos has strong feelings about the service they provide to their consumers. Zappos believes that customer service is the number one priority and is focused on cultivating repeat customers, which is why it has always provided free shipping on both orders and returns; occasionally offers enhanced shipping so customers can receive shoes the same day they are ordered, although this is very expensive for the company; and they only show on their website the products they actually have in stock, even if by doing so they lose 25% of their potential business (Walker, 2009).
