The historical trends in the tourism sector in Ghana highlight the fact that the concept for its development is a useful strategy. The process identifies strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats (SWOT) in the national economy and sector situation and seeks to provide optimal solutions that will accelerate the growth and development of the tourism sector. Although it is currently ranked as one of the highest foreign exchange earners in the country, the tourism industry's potential to become a major source of foreign exchange earnings in Ghana has not yet been realized.
