Feeding the Global Population As we all know, the total population of the world is around 7 billion people. In the 1930s the population was only 2 billion, which is a massive increase of 5 billion people in just 80 years. There is no doubt that the population will continue to increase. The population is expected to increase to 9 billion in the next 30-40 years. This could cause many problems in the future and one of the main threats is feeding the expected 9 billion people. This essay will discuss the problems and solutions for feeding the population in the next 40 years. As the population grows, the demand for food supplies will also increase. However, food production cannot increase at the same rate as human reproduction. With the current population of 7 billion people, at least 1 billion suffer from food and water shortages. If this were the case at the moment, it will be really difficult to even imagine what it will be like after 40 years with 9 billion people or more. Most of today's hungry population comes from Africa. According to Haqan, M. (2014) of the 10 poorest countries in the world, 9 are from Africa. But with the population increasing as life goes on, more countries outside of Africa may be added to this list, because there may not be enough food for the whole world. The first problem, which is almost becoming a crisis, is the significant increase in food prices, which continue to rise, throwing people into poverty. The poor harvest and increased demand from the population have led to this price increase. Recalling the protests of some of the Middle Eastern countries, such as Tunisia, Libya and Egypt in 2011, one of the main reasons for the protest... middle of paper... every problem has a solution. There is no doubt that the population will continue to increase and demands will continue to grow with it, but the problem is that food production is not growing at the rate of population growth nor the demand for these foods. Countries should control food prices and prevent them from rising, so that there is no poverty. There are 1 billion people who are hungry, and at the same time there are people who are overweight because of how much they eat, so people should stop wasting food and have better distribution of food. Governments and politicians should interfere with everything related to food production for the population, as long as these intrusions are in the positive direction in terms of people's satisfaction. And they should also help farmers produce better food for people's future.
