Topic > First impression since starting college life

After the first few weeks of college, my opinions changed a little. When I got here, I really wanted to learn as much as I could and make that my main goal, partly because I thought that was really the only thing people were supposed to get after college. Now that I have a few weeks of college under my belt, my thinking has changed a bit. I began to realize how important the social aspect of college is and how it can make a huge difference in my daily activities. I'm also really starting to appreciate the spiritual aspect of Malone. I love the Bible studies we have and the chapels are amazing. I love the fact that in every lesson the professor almost always manages to connect it back to God and how amazing He is. Education is still my main focus, but I'm starting to understand the importance of other goals as well. Say no to plagiarism. Get a tailor-made essay on "Why Violent Video Games Shouldn't Be Banned"? We all stayed in our rooms and studied or watched TV and didn't interact much. But eventually, we started taking baby steps out of our comfort zones and got to know ourselves. This has totally changed the atmosphere in our room and everything we do as a floor. We prepare meals together, watch TV, and have become very good at helping each other procrastinate! One of the girls who lives next to me has magnetic Scrabble tiles on her door, and we've been known to stand there for a good 20 minutes trying to come up with a really long word. Making friends outside of my dorm was a little harder, but it can be just as rewarding. Starting conversations with people I don't know has never been my strong point, but I've tried to work on it during my first few weeks here. Talking to people in my classes can make the time much more enjoyable and can be especially helpful when I don't understand something in class. Another thing I really underestimated was the impact the last few weeks had on my faith. I arrived knowing that Malone is a Christian college, but I hadn't fully thought about how that would affect my daily life. My RA is so supportive of all the girls on my floor and loves hanging out with us and listening to us. Every week we have a Bible study that really brings us closer to each other and to God. I have learned so much from the girls in the few weeks I have been here that I never expected to learn. I am so grateful to be able to spend time with such amazing girls who help me grow in my relationship with God more than I expected. Another thing here that I really liked are the chapels. It's really nice to get away from studying and commitments for a while and spend some time worshiping God. I also love the variety of chapels. I like variety because it breaks up what can be the monotony of worship. Sometimes people can become complacent in their faith and become accustomed to a certain way of doing things. I know I can do that sometimes and I like being forced out of that bubble. Every time I go to chapel, I'm not sure what I'll get. One of my favorite chapels was Compassion International. The kids had incredible stories to tell and the organization changed so many lives. The dancing and music was a real break from the usual chapel format, and it was so much fun! My group arrived a little late and it was.
