Topic > Gregor Mendel's Theory of Genetics - 1789
After Mendel's death, his work was rediscovered by Carl Correns, Hugo de Vries, and Erich von Tschermak-Seysenegg. Although Mendel's work was not recognized until 1900, he is still remembered and considered the father of modern genetics. Mendel's genetic research on peas helped geneticists discover and develop new theories for Mendel's unfinished work; therefore, simple Mendelian genetics distinguished the environmental impact on phenotype, believed to be the foundation of human genetics, and analyzed the results for family histories. Mendel, along with his experiments and genetic laws, will always be credited as the man whose work thrived in a new discipline within biology and science.
