At the beginning of the English Composition 1 course, I felt like I wasn't a very good writer. A lot of what I learned in high school was completely different than in my college English class. Over the course of this semester our class has worked on several types of essays that include academic speeches, discourse community analysis, a persuasive article, and finally a critical reflective essay. After almost completing the course, I feel like I've become a more prepared writer because of all the helpful information I've learned. Campus resources, such as the Writing Center, also contributed greatly to the success of my English course. I am convinced that everything I have learned this semester will be transferable to all my future classes because I will most likely have to write more academic essays, lab reports, and so on. Some of the many things I learned during the semester are that when writing a thesis you must include everything you plan to talk about in your paper. You also learn that feedback helps your growth and allows you to correct the things you did wrong in the next article, because you will know what to do and what not to do. All of these things can be used in my future classes throughout my college career. This essay reflects on how my English composition essay writing has grown, or benefited from constant revision, by visiting the Writing Center and implementing the feedback I received from my teacher. The process of writing and revising my first paper for English Composition 1 benefited from the various resources offered by the University of Oklahoma. The first article I wrote was the academic discourse at the heart of the article, explaining it with relevant sources and research. Even though I've learned a lot and improved my writing skills tremendously, I still feel like I still have a lot to work on. I constantly took all the criticism I received from my English teacher and applied these things to the next paper so that I could learn from it and do better than before. Everything I learned in this course I will be able to use in future courses because sooner or later I will have to write other essays or even laboratory reports. I can also apply what I have learned to my future career because I will have to communicate with my colleagues via business emails which will require good sentence structure and proper grammar.
