Topic > We will miss the old pool - 1183

I didn't learn to swim at the old community pool in Worland, but I have many memories of that building. Yes, I'm just writing about the example you gave in class, but to be honest, the old swimming pool was the first thing that came to mind when you assigned the writing topic last week. Returning to the essay, I would like to make a bold statement. I will always have more fond memories of the old pool than the new one. It could simply be the difference in total memories of each of the pools. I have been swimming at the old Worland Community Pool for over five years. However, in the new Worland Aquatic Center, I only swam one year. This may have an effect on how I remember each of the pools, but I believe the old pool will always be associated with better memories than the new one. It must seem strange to some people who don't know me very well, or to those who never swam in the old pool like my friends and I did. I will miss the rough layout, huge plunge pool, slippery floors and relaxed nature of the old pool. First of all, the structure of the building itself is something extraordinary. After more than thirty years of intensive use, weathering and corrosion, it is surprising that the dome has remained standing this long. The wooden support beams were so rotten that I remember hitting my head on one next to the upstairs stands and making a good-sized dent in the wood. I could remove bits of rust from the bolts and brackets that hold the beams together. It was just the thought that thousands of pounds of wood and iron were sitting very precariously, very high above my head, and had been that way for years. It'll probably seem strange that this is something I'll miss about the old pool, but I...... middle of paper...... doubt I'll ever find a place so full of opportunities to have fun, or maybe, hurt. I know that some of the things my friends and I did in the old pool are just plain stupid and that we are lucky to have escaped that pool with only a few battle scars. The scars will always be a reminder of the great fun we had there. It's sad to see that pool disappear, but who knows whether or not there would have been a terrible accident if my friends and I had continued playing in it. I'm just grateful to have experienced that pool to its fullest potential and to be alive to tell the tale. We will truly miss the old pool, but perhaps it is for the best that it now lies in shambles, and will soon be forgotten by those who were not fortunate enough to experience that rotten, old, smelly, squalid, dangerous, glorious pool as I did.
