Erma said that she and her brother would go to church on Sunday and Wednesday but their parents were not at the service, but made sure they went. As a child she (Erma) remembers going to church and having fun. On holidays the family would get together to have dinner and have fun." That was when the neighbors were like family and everyone got along. Erma said that even though there were 14 children, they all got what they wanted for birthdays and Christmas because her father works hard: they (the brothers) work in the field cutting cotton to get the things they wanted. Erma didn't finish high school but said she wanted her children to get the education she didn't have and to work so their education could be better
