Philosophy and religion:1. Before Humanities 210, how would you have described the philosophies/religions that influenced your decision-making, thinking, and preference development processes? How would you describe your level of conscious choice and commitment to these philosophies/religions? What helped form or develop belief in that philosophy/religion? The religion that most influences the way I live my life and the choices I make is Christianity. Christianity is an Abrahamic faith whose guiding belief is the presence of a three-part god; the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit (Detrick “Religion”). Initially, my choice to follow Catholicism as the basis of my life was influenced by my parents. Both of my parents have a strong relationship with God and their faith is what guides their choices and actions. Growing up, I attended a Catholic school and received daily education in my faith. The combination of Catholic school and my parents' example really influenced my faith. As I experience more of the world, I find comfort and peace in my faith in God. My faith helps me feel safe and secure, giving me purpose and direction in my life. I am proud to be Catholic.2. Since the class discussions, have you changed the way you think about the philosophies/religions that influence your decision-making, thinking, and preference development processes? Has your level of conscious choice and/or commitment to these philosophies/religions changed? Why or why not? This humanities course had a great impact on my religious outlook. I have been Catholic all my life, because it is my family's faith. Growing up, I chose Catholic faith and beliefs as the basis of my life, because... middle of paper... I listened to Christian music outside of church. I love the message of Christian music and enjoy the reminder of God's love and presence that it provides. Many country music songs also include references to God and faith, when they aren't talking about drinking or riding in a truck. The rhythm present in each genre is a component that pushes me to listen to them. I really love the rhythm and sound of the banjo in older country and folk style music. I'm pretty comfortable with my music choice, but since most of my friends choose to listen to other music, I'm open to expanding my exposure. Even though I don't like the language used in the songs my friends like, I love the beat and rhythm. Now that I understand that musical preferences have to do with comfort due to familiarity, I can better understand why people choose to listen to certain musical genres.
