However, three of these main factors are love for one's country, freedom, and the desire to succeed. Love for one's country has been one of the cornerstones of the United States, and although it is viewed differently, it still helps make a person an American. Freedom is also one of the fundamental elements of this nation. Without it we wouldn't have many of the luxuries we have today. It was this freedom that our founding fathers strove to achieve when they created the profile of this great nation. The last important factor that makes a person American is the desire to succeed. Success comes in many different shapes and forms; it can mean many different things depending on the person it affects. All three of these factors help, in my opinion, shape the true American person. I want to end with a great quote from President Harry Truman: “You know that being an American is more than a matter of where your parents come from. It is the belief that all men are created free and equal and that all deserve an equal footing
