Slavery has existed since the dawn of humanity coming together to form a civilization. It can be found throughout the story. In the era of the Roman Empire, slaves constituted approximately 30% of the total population and consisted of barbarians who did not speak their language (Walter Scheidel 2007). But the best known and most recent is the Atlantic slave trade, which differs from all other periods of slavery for four fundamental reasons. The Atlantic slavery trade lasted nearly four centuries; the target group was black African men, women and children (UNESCO 2014). Along with the development of a consumer culture in which luxury resources become necessities, it is believed to be the first system to be globalized, making it an important mark of history. Many of the Africans brought into slavery came from the West and central parts of Africa. These Africans were enslaved by other West Africans or Western Europeans, who were then sold and most commonly shipped to newly discovered parts of the world such as the Caribbean, Brazil, and America. Slaves were brought to the Caribbean and Brazil primarily for the sugar industry where they planted, harvested, and processed sugar ten out of twelve months of the year with workdays of up to thirty-five hours. While in America they were used for housework, skilled craft work, and occasionally as sailors, but most worked as farm laborers on tobacco, sugar, cocoa, and cotton plantations. It all began in the 15th century, shortly after the Portuguese began exploring the west coast. of Africa. When they began slavery it was in small numbers and they were sold for profit in the European colonies. But then the other European center……the middle of the paper……would never have seen the full potential economic value of the new world and would not have allowed the consumerism we have developed today where a luxury resource can be seen as a necessity ( Alan Brinkley 1993). In conclusion, we can find that without the cruelty that African men, women and children have endured for over four centuries, and that without them the potential of the Caribbean, Brazil and America, we would never have been fully realized as a legacy sad that this leaves in history with all the inhumanity and wrong actions that were done. Furthermore, it effectively created today's world, where we are globally connected in forms of commerce that allow us to purchase items that are on the other side of the world, because our world having such luxurious resources at our disposal would have meant it would have been unthinkable without all the hardships endured by those who came before us.
