The social anathema that is animal cruelty has been around for too long. Elephants deserve to roam freely in forests and savannahs instead of being killed and then maimed for their brilliant tusks. It has also been verified that many “elephants who perform in circuses are often kept in chains for up to 23 hours a day since they are young (Dosomething.org)”. Elephants are not the only animals treated this way. Furthermore, the beautiful and majestic stallion belongs on the open prairie and not locked in a 6x4 cage, dying of hunger and thirst. Elephants and stallions are just two animals among thousands that suffer the negative effects of humans. Together, we must be the voice of the silent and helpless animals with whom we share the world. To protect the lives of animals today, stricter laws must be implemented to stop animal cruelty. Animal cruelty; How broad can this topic be? How many of us actually know and, above all, understand what it is? When we as people hear the words animal cruelty, we think of the grave harm that someone has knowingly, deliberately, and inhumanely caused to an animal. Images of animals bleeding somewhere after being hit may flash in our minds. Advertisements often starkly expose this blatant reality, which is necessary to do so. Meanwhile, smaller or lower intensity incidents might slip our minds, but are still considered animal cruelty. In many cases, “we believe, unconsciously, that animals are more endowed with perseverance than we humans (Joshi)”. In reality, however, this is quite the opposite as animals are mute and have no means of communicating with humans.
