It allows for interactions between teachers and students, group discussions, and collaboration between students, but it provides an outlet for cyberbullying, a distraction in the classroom, and students miss out on addressing the problem face-to-face communication skills. Social media allows shy and quiet students to have a say. Students who don't have the courage to raise their hands in class are given the opportunity to answer questions and share their ideas via social media. Students who would not normally collaborate in class find it easier to communicate with each other via electronic devices; however, such communication can also become negative. Social media such as Facebook and Twitter provide students with the opportunity to cyberbully other students. “Instructors who use social media as part of their course activities should be aware of the potential dangers….'By intervening on minor behaviors, we can stop more serious negative behaviors'” (Lederer, par 9). Cyberbullying isn't just about middle school or high school behavior, it also occurs on college campuses. A study conducted at Indian State University found that “22% of college students admit to having been harassed online.
