Animal testing is the use of non-human animals for scientific experimentation. An estimated 50 to 100 million vertebrate animals are used worldwide each year, from zebrafish to human primates. A much larger number of invertebrates are used, flies and worms are also used as model organisms are very important, experiments on invertebrates are largely unregulated and not included in statistics. Animals are euthanized after being used in an experiment. Some of these animals are specially bred, others are caught from the wild or supplied by traders who obtain them from auctions and pounds. Animal testing is conducted within universities, medical schools, pharmaceutical companies, agricultural companies, defense establishments, and commercial facilities that provide animal testing services to industry. Some of the tests that researchers perform on animals are biomedical research transplants, drug tests and toxicology tests, cosmetics and other animals are used for directional research, breeding and defense research. Organizations such as PETA and BUVA believe that it is not necessary to carry out these tests. They think it is a cruel, inadequate, poorly regulated scientific practice and that animals used for testing have an inherent right not to be used for testing. Many Americans do not agree with animal testing. Testing animals is wrong and they are just poor defenseless animals and they die every day. They are testing animals with products such as soap, household cleaners, drugs, cosmetics, pesticides and other chemicals. Drug tests performed on animals that pass the test end up harming or killing humans. The lists of animals that are tested daily include cats, dogs, monkeys, mice and rabbits. Researchers test these… paper halves… manicure products, hair color, shampoo, shaving products, baby products, mouthwashes and tanning products. There are alternatives without testing or torturing animals. These non-animal methods usually take less time to complete, cost a fraction of what animal experiments would cost, and are not plagued by species differences that make extrapolation difficult or impossible. Effective, accessible and humane research methods include studies of human populations, volunteers and patients, as well as sophisticated in vitro, genomic and computer modeling techniques. Companies that are exploring modern alternatives. Some companies use only human tissue and sophisticated computer technologies in the drug development and testing process. Some companies claim that the discovery process is much more efficient with human tissue rather than animal tissue.
