IntroductionThis essay aims to cover two main focal points. The first section of this essay will take an in-depth look at the main differences between two research methods: qualitative and quantitative. I will explore when and why they are used for specific types of research and how they apply to certain types of work more effectively. The second area of this essay will be based on the research question: What factors contribute to making you feel anxious during sport or exercise? I will then show that the best method to use to analyze this problem will be to use qualitative research, and then how it can be applied to it to extract all the relevant information. Qualitative and Quantitative Research MethodsQualitative and quantitative research methods are divided by many key differences. It could be suggested that these two research methods represent two different ends of a linear spectrum. Qualitative research seems to deal with the in-depth side of word-based research, while on the other end of the spectrum quantitative research works predominantly with number-based research and statistics. Birley and Moreland (1998) support this by stating that “the two methodologies reflect different paradigms and that the theoretical model that each method uses to conduct the research comes from different areas”. Qualitative research involves considering emotions and thought processes regarding certain situations. , while quantitative data collection involves using statistics and numbers to determine outcomes (Mosby's Dictionary of Medicine, Nursing and Health Professions). Furthermore, qualitative research provides a more detailed view of the situation than quantitative research, which collects only discrete information...... half of the article......
