Chocolate Chip CookiesRoy McKenzie LA 6th February 26, 1997Anyone here who loves chocolate chip cookies GET UP! Well, I like them too. The history of the chocolate chip cookie is really interesting. In fact, did you know that the invention itself was actually an accident? No, well, I didn't think so. Let me tell you about it briefly. Have you ever wondered how the chocolate chip cookie was born? Have you ever wondered who brought this American tradition into our homes? Do you know how they became so popular? Well, it all started one day with a young woman named Ruth Wakefield. One day he was making biscuits for his guests. They were called ButterDrop Do's. This cookie called for pieces of semi-sweet chocolate to melt into the batter. Well, he was in a hurry, he had beds to make and curtains to clean, so instead of melting the chocolate pieces into the batter he simply chopped them into the batter, thinking they would melt during cooking. To his surprise they remained virtually intact. See what happens when you don't follow directions? Well, nevertheless everyone at the Toll House Inn loved them. In fact, they became so popular that the recipe was published in the Boston Newspaper. The recipe was called Toll House Cookie. One day Nestle was looking at their reports and found that candy bar sales were increasing rapidly in the Boston area. That's because candy bars were the main ingredient in Toll House Cookies. When Nestlé discovered what was happening, it began producing its chocolate bars with score lines on them to make them easier to break. This was ok but still not easy enough. So, to solve this problem, they made morsels (miniature chocolate kisses) and bought the name Toll House. So they called them Nestlé Toll House Morsels. Did you also know that the chocolate chip cookie is the most popular cookie in America? The Toll House makes thirty-three thousand cookies each
