Topic > Gifted and Talented Case Study - 1541

After reading Eduardo's situation, I believe that the instructions he was given do not satisfy his interest, such as role-playing as he would in the Hispanic drama club. I would need to incorporate Eduardo's strengths into my sixth grade history lessons. If there is a gifted and talented program at the high school I teach at, I would direct him to the gifted and talented program. Students who are labeled as gifted and talented in the classroom face acceptance challenges from their peers. Young students tend to make fun of students who excel in the classroom. Gifted students will sometimes have a tendency to act out in school or find a group of people to blend in with. Eduardo arguing may be his way of dealing with his talent, drawing attention away from his peers. Research has shown that gifted students are slightly different from non-gifted students only in how they handle different social situations (Roeper Review 2012). What stands out most in Eduardo's case is the fact that he recently moved to an area not too long ago. Being the new kid on the block can be a stressful situation for anyone. New students who are physically, intellectually, ethnically, racially, economically, or linguistically diverse may be rejected into classes with established peer groups (EDTE 200 Textbook 2011). In this situation there may not be enough students in high school who have the same or similar identity as Eduardo. This may indeed explain why Eduard may have withdrawn from the drama club, his academics and fallen out with other students. It is important that as an educator he creates a living environment in which... middle of paper ......or he acclimatizes to his new classmates and surroundings and begins to feel comfortable and that is where col Over time I will gain Eduardo's trust and respect. I hope Eduardo can feel comfortable telling me more about his family life and upbringing. I can't really help Eduardo without really knowing the person deep inside him.ReferenceGargiulo, RM (2010).
