Throughout history art has appeared in many different forms. Two art forms are poetry and painting. William C. Carlos's poem “The Dance” paints a picture while Pieter Brueghel's painting “The Peasants' Dance” tells a story. The strange thing is that both the poem and the painting have many similarities as well as many notable differences. The tone, image, and imagery show the many similarities and differences between the poem "The Dance" by William C. Williams and the painting "Dance of the Peasants" by Pieter Brueghel. Tone creates the attitude when reading the poem by placing ideas in the reader's head through the author's words. Williams paints a picture of “Brueghel's great picture” (Lines 1.12) with his tone and use of words. After seeing the painting, the reader can witness the celebration as they "kick and roll around the fairgrounds, swinging their butts" (lines 8-9). The reader can also see how the poem is misleading by leaving out all the people having fun not by dancing but by socializing, drinking, and making love. The tone of the poem creates the festive mood and parts of what the painting shows but doesn't paint the total picture. The image shown by the painting fills in the gaps that the reader may have encountered while reading the poem. The painting tells a much broader story than the celebrations but both give off similar atmospheres. “The dancers go around, they go around and around, the screech and blare and tweed of the bagpipes” (lines 2-4) are all witnessed...
