Topic > Grow Up and Stop Idolizing Celebrities - 587

Sally enters the stage, wearing a slimming purple Dulcet and Cabana dress, all ready for her close-up. She can hear the fans screaming and see the glorious light show that would introduce her to the millions waiting. She couldn't believe she was asked to host this year's Grammy Awards. There were many deserving people who could have earned these awards, and it was up to her to present them. As Sally faces these millions of anxious and impatient people, she begins to wonder about younger generations and how they idolize many of the people who receive Grammys today. When children idolize someone, they try to be just like them and ultimately end up changing who they are. When they idolize someone, they may change the way they speak, just to be more like the person they are idolizing. They may start using inappropriate words to express themselves. For example, using swear words when they get hurt or whenever someone makes them angry. Instead of saying something like ouch, they say the swear word or when someone makes them angry instead of saying whatever or whatever, they use a swear word. You might even start using synonyms to represent something else entirely. Greg Graffin said, “People asked me, “Dude!…do you party?” It took me about six months to realize that it was synonymous with getting high” (“Anarchy in the Tenth Grade”). By this Graffin is saying that unless you are in a crowd, you will never know what many are talking about. Celebrities have no limits when it comes to fashion and the way they dress. Some celebrities dress however they want without thinking about all the younger generations who adore them. They wear clothes that are too tight or clothes that aren't clothes at all. When they wear clothes that are too tight, some parts of the body start to sag and get attention for it. This sets a terrible example for pre-teens because when they see their idols wearing such clothes they believe that if they also wear such clothes they will receive the same attention. When it comes to wearing clothes, they are not similar at all, they have the same context. Some celebrities might simply wear jewelry attached to their body in a music video. This may also cause some preteens to wear fewer clothes to attract attention.
