They are both similar because in both the main protagonist is trapped in a “false” reality, the chain symbolizes the same thing in both cases and a different one it would be that one escapes from the fake reality while the other goes back. In Plato's Allegory of the Cave men are chained and told to believe that what they see is indeed real. The same thing goes for The Truman Show; Truman is forced to believe in a false reality because it is what has surrounded him for a long time. Both characters are prevented from understanding what is real and what is just an illusion of what they think is real. In both works a false reality is perceived as something they live in because they are not exposed to the real world. Both the men and Truman are kept in the dark about the fact that their life is more than an island and a cave (shadows in the cave). This isolates them and changes their perception of
