I had no work experience and wasn't old enough to work; I asked the manager if they needed any help. By law in the 1990s, minor children in Illinois could not work until they reached sixteen. I knew I wasn't old enough to work, but I told the manager I was willing to help in any way I could. Based on my determination, the manager gave me a chance. I began helping him by cleaning the windows, sweeping and mopping the floors, and running errands as he or she needed. In the end, the manager liked the way I worked and my determination to do it
