The Indulgence of Machiavellian BehaviorThe Elizabethan era is named after the reign of Queen Elizabeth I. This era is one of the most fascinating eras in history, not only for the queen herself, but also for the first theater in England, the Globe, which began with the performance of works written by William Shakespeare and his many inspirations. and the renowned works of this era have been marked significantly. I have chosen texts based on this era and they are the following, the works of William Shakespeare: Othello and King Richard III, the Reign series by Stephanie SenGupta and the film Elizabeth the Golden Age by Shekhar Kapur. At least one character in these texts possesses the same traits of Machiavellian behavior. On the one hand, Queen Elizabeth used Machiavellian tactics to protect England from Spain and any Catholics who wished to harm her and take over the court. He had also consistently deceived everyone in court. In the movie Elizabeth the Golden Age it was shown that Elizabeth had short hair. However, when he was in court, when dealing with people, he wore a wig to deceive everyone in court and people from other courts. On the other hand Catherine de Medici had used similar tactics to ensure the safety of her son Francis, she slipped into darkness by manipulating all those who associated with her and betraying them so that she could save her son from the fate foretold by her prophet Nostradamus. . The prediction was that if Francis married Mary of Scots, then Francis would die, so Catherine did everything in her power to prevent the marriage from taking place. Caterina tirelessly tried to change Francesco's destiny and during this journey she lost herself, finally embracing the darkness that had haunted her since childhood. Richard III was a character from William Shakespeare's play, King Richard III and Iago from the play Othello used Machiavelli's tactics to get revenge. They constantly manipulated and lied to everyone to prove that they had been treated unfairly and deserved the right to justice. They had stooped so low that they were willing to surrender to the darkness. All of these characters were willing to use and manipulate anyone who was able to help them with their plans, regardless of the consequences, all that mattered to them was achieving their goal. The reasons why each character danced to the tunes of darkness were different. Some are forced to choose this path because of their love and loyalty towards their people, while others do it for personal gain and justify it with illogical reasoning. Elizabeth the First brought these types of characteristics with her as she was willing to do anything to protect her country and the people of England. Catherine did this out of devotion to her family. She did it out of love and duty as a mother. He lied and manipulated people so he could protect his son. On the other hand Iago and Richard had committed their crimes due to jealousy and hatred. They wanted to rise in status and power and did whatever was necessary to reach their peak
