Include a physical fitness assessment such as the “President's Challenge” or “Fitnessgram” for all students and report the results to parents twice a year. Monitor fitness assessments annually to ensure wellness benefits are being achieved. • Require an assigned daily break time for outdoor play. • Redesign the playground to include a track or walking path. Assign one of the playground guardians/parent volunteers to walk the track/path during recess times. Promote this path/path as the “BUDDY path”. Everyone is welcome to walk encouraging social time while exercising. Host events along the route such as: Walk with a Teacher/Principal, Rides and Laughs, or Moving to the Beat of Music. • Incorporate a semester of whole-body health and wellness into the curriculum. Include units on nutrition, substance abuse, conflict resolution, and sex education at age-appropriate intervals. • Require CPR and AED training for all adolescent students. • Start a health club for teachers and staff. • Host family fun nights throughout the year to highlight the healthy progress taking place at the school.
