The government is just trying to protect us. With too much privacy you often make bad decisions. Our social boundaries are more stable than ever. So why worry about privacy “…the government doesn’t want to hurt me” (Solove 167). In many cases this is all true, but the government in some cases can also harm people, due to mistakes and errors caused by carelessness. What would happen if the government were to accidentally disclose information to the public or determine based on activities whether one is a criminal? If personal information is not adequately protected, anyone will be able to obtain it. Privacy is important because without it how can we expect to keep our government in check while maintaining our ability to make our own decisions about how our personal information is used. Now that we've discussed why privacy matters, I hope we can all see how too much power, even in the hands of someone who may "mean well," is incredibly dangerous. We must maintain our ability to make decisions for ourselves about how our personal information is used and stored, so that we can maintain our social boundaries which are already very fragile. Privacy is very important and is our right given to us at birth. If we don't change the direction society is going, we may no longer have the freedom we call privacy
