One of my most pronounced weaknesses would be my difficulty attracting my audience and keeping them engaged in the introductory paragraph. I think I've improved in this area, but not to the point where I can still consider it a strength. For example, in my literary analysis essay I open with "Shakespeare's famous quote 'there is something rotten in the state of Denmark' (I.iv.90) comes from his famous play The Tragedy of Hamlet: The Prince of Denmark". By beginning my essay with a Shakespeare quote, I automatically ceded my defining moment to another author and assumed the role of submissive before I had even had the opportunity to make my point. Although my e-instructor specifically pointed out how using a Shakespeare quote was a great way to attract my audience, I disagree because it wasn't my personal hook, but someone else's. I also struggle with adding new ideas in my concluding paragraph, which is something I noticed in my last reflection, but I'm starting to learn how to turn that new idea into a statement that explains the purpose and intent behind my article instead of simply a floating idea.
