Dr. Molly Cooke once said, "Like car insurance, health insurance is a service you pay for but hope you'll never need. It's there for the unpredictable, unexpected, and fundamentally uncontrollable problems that emerge in people's lives." Everyone in America needs health insurance to ensure they can get the best medical care available without having to be responsible for paying the entire hospital bill. To ensure that every American has access to affordable healthcare, Barack Obama signed a law called the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obama Care, on March 23, 2010 (Obamacarefacts.com). Obama Care was established to increase the quality, affordability, and availability of health care (Obamacarefacts.com). Your health insurance will not be taken away if you lose your job or are hired elsewhere. Before Obama Care, you could be rejected by health insurance companies because of previous health conditions or because you were a woman (Obamacarefacts.com). Millions of people do not have health insurance, but starting January 1, 2014, everyone will be required to have health insurance (Kaiser Permanente). Those who do not purchase health insurance will receive a tax penalty issued by the government. (Medicaid) If mandatory health insurance is still too expensive for some people, the government will help them financially (ProCon). This is where the controversy comes in. Many people, especially Republicans, don't feel the need to pay for other people's health insurance. On the other hand, most Democrats say everyone should have the right to receive affordable healthcare no matter what (Obamacarefacts.com). The real question is…Do the benefits outweigh the costs of Obama Care? People are losing more money because ...... middle of the paper ...... surgery performed. If they don't have coverage, they will most likely not be able to afford any procedures or hospitalizations. So who's left with the bill? Providers are becoming concerned because as a doctor you may not know whether someone has active insurance or not (Fox News). Doctors will continue to help their patients. If more and more people don't have coverage, doctors and hospitals will go deeper into debt because they will have to cover the costs.
